Sandra Cherry Jones grew up in Washington, North Carolina, where her early passion for art developed from simple sketches to painting under the encouragement of a high school art teacher. Though she did not initially pursue formal fine arts education, she began exhibiting her work in 1999, quickly gaining recognition in the regional art scene through group shows and solo exhibitions. Her paintings often focus on themes of women’s strength, care, and connection, frequently depicting them in harmony with birds to explore the bond between humans and nature. Jones’s creative process is intuitive, involving gestural sketches and layered acrylic washes, with notable projects including her ongoing work on brick pavers, which has become a beloved community feature.

Jones’s artistic contributions have earned her awards such as the Charter Day Merit Award from ASALH and the Creative Spirit Award at the African-American Cultural Festival. Her work has been displayed in venues like the Lemonade Gallery and featured at cultural festivals in Raleigh, North Carolina.
